What is Galentine’s Day?
Galentine’s Day is an unofficial holiday that many take as an opportunity to spread the love in the platonic relationships in their lives (ahead of the romance amping up on Valentine’s Day). As the name suggests, the day has a specific focus on female friendships, where girl gangs gather far and wide to consolidate their bonds, however, the day is no longer an event for girls only - all genders can use it as an excuse to spread love and join in on the event.
The concept of Galentine’s Day originated in the popular US sitcom Parks and Recreation, where the female characters gathered to enjoy breakfast together, telling stories and exchanging gifts. Since this episode premiered in 2010, the event has grown in popularity, with 2025 marking its 15th anniversary.
When is Galentine’s Day?
Galentine’s Day falls on the 13th of February each year - one day before the wider-known love-filled holiday, Valentine’s Day.
