Environmental and sustainability policy and strategy

Wild Fawn’s mission is to create long lasting pieces of classic jewellery using minimal resources including carbon emissions, plastic and chemicals.

Positive contributions to the Planet

We are committed to having 6 ‘Green up’ days per year, per employee, where we benefit either the community or the planet.

A commitment to continually improve our environmental performance.

  • We will continually reassess our environmental impact so we know how we can continually improve it. Every 6 months, we will assess what can be improved in our processes to reduce plastic use, chemicals and CO2 emissions.
  • We will make it our aim to use suppliers who have the same ethos as us, with a determination to minimise their environmental impact and using renewable, recyclable, plastic free alternatives wherever possible.
  • A commitment to communicate Wild Fawn Jewellery Ltd’s' environmental aims and objectives to all staff, as well as to customers.
  • Wild Fawn will communicate our environmental aims with new starters in their induction period so our environmental policy and ambitions are clear from the offset. We will hire people with a keen interest in environmental matters and aim to assist them in making choices that are beneficial to the environment if possible and in Wild Fawn’s remit.

We aim to minimise waste by

  • Ideally ordering from suppliers that can send plastic-free alternatives to ship with and emailing major suppliers before using them to ask how their parcels are packaged.
  • Ordering in bulk from suppliers to reduce the need for reordering and sending more plastic bags. This also cuts delivery C02 emissions.
  • Ordering from as many independent, sustainable brands as possible
  • Reusing whatever we can in the studio
  • Buying ethical and eco office supplies such as eco washing liquid and recycled sponges, biodegradable wipes.
  • Having a bi weekly team meal to cut down on plastics being bought for lunch food and as an economic way of cooking food.
  • Educating the team on the 3 bin system in the kitchen (food waste, recycling and non-recycling) to ensure these are used correctly.

Minimising waste in the sale of Wild Fawn Jewellery

  • We use recycled sterling silver and gold wherever possible. We have appointed our Creative Product manager to continuously search for more eco, traceable products.
  • Our gift boxes are 100% recycled and 100% recyclable. Made by artisanal women from waste paper and card and natural dyes.
  • We use traditional making techniques as opposed to big machinery. This method is kinder and has a lower impact on the planet.
  • We make most of our jewellery in house which cuts carbon emissions, is traceable and is made in a safe, happy working environment.
  • All packaging is made from kraft, undyed paper/card that is 100% recyclable and is plastic free
  • All promotional materials are made with recycled card

 Energy Use Policy

  • Bring layers into the office to reduce the need and length heating needs to be on. This not only saves money for Wild Fawn, but also benefits the environment.
  • Use radiator instead of electric heater to heat up the office as it’s more energy efficient
  • Use of biodegradable chemicals
  • Turn off all plugs at the end of the day
  • We offset all office carbon emissions using the B1G1 Scheme (in 2020 our carbon offsetting resulted in, 1,440 days of access to solar lighting were given to underprivileged people, 12 trees were planted in India, 48 tangerine trees were planted for families in Malawi, 12 kg of food was rescued from going to the landfill, 60 forest trees were planted to help restore the environment).

Water Use policy

Wild Fawn has a moral  responsibility to reduce water use through efficient practices. By reducing water use, Wild Fawn reduces its consumption of a resource that is already coming under considerable pressure.

  • Our taps are timed flow taps to ensure only necessary water is used for washing hands.
  • Water to wash our jewellery is reused by using dip buckets.
  • Our ultrasonic automatically heats to eradicate the need of using freshly boiled water each time.
  • We use water from the dehumidifier to water our plants in the office which ensures no new water is needed to keep the plants alive.

Transport

Where possible, employees should walk/get public transport or cycle into work.

Recycling of packaging materials

Always recycle where possible but recycling should come as a last resort. No recycling waste (or landfill) at all is preferable.
